Bill de Blasio's high school principal will be at City Hall on Wednesday to watch his former student sworn in as the city's 109th mayor. Ray Shurtleff, who knew de Blasio as a gangly teen with an unusual passion for politics in Cambridge, Mass., is cutting his annual four-week Florida vacation short to attend the ceremony. He's not looking forward to the expected 20 degree temps — "You don't want to know how warm it is here," he said — but is otherwise over the moon about the rise of his star pupil.
